Which filter models does the Pure Source 2 replace? The Frigidaire WF2CB PureSource2 water filter replaces Frigidaire part numbers FC100, FC-100, as well as Sears Kenmore part number 46-9911, this is used in all Kenmore refrigerators made by Frigidaire. If you are unsure, look for your model number. Model numbers that start with 253 are Kenmore made by Frigidaire.
Why select the PureSource2 water filter? Your water will taste better. Which essentially means you won’t be tasting the impurities of unfiltered tap water and water that comes from an inferior water filter. The taste and smell of the water are improved by removing impurities. Let’s take a look at how well this filter does at removing impurities.
The PureSource2 removes:
Cysts by 99.99%
Particulates (Class I and III) up to 98.6%
Turbidity by 97.80%
Aesthetic Chlorine by 97.40%
Lead by 99.30%
Mercury by 91%
Various Herbicides up to 99.90%
Pesticides such as Lindane 92% and Toxaphane 87.5%
This water filter takes care not to remove fluoride which is very beneficial to all of us.
The manufacturer recommends replacing the filter either when the status light turns to red, or every nine months. The only exception to this rule is if the refrigerator has not been in use, unpowered, for over 2 weeks. So if you were moving a long distance, and the travel time of your appliances exceeds two weeks without power. They also say to consider replacing the filter if the water flow drops really low or you feel that the water and ice taste especially bad.
Overall I have been extremely pleased and impressed with the taste of the water and ice from the PureSource2 water filter. When you consider everything that this filter traps and removes from the water, it is a wonder that we haven’t been poisoned by our own tap water yet.
I have found the manufacturer guidelines for replacement, around nine months, to be more of a guideline. This is me personally… I generally gauge replacement time by the water flow. If I seems like I am standing there way too long just to get a glass of water, then I know it is time for a filter change. I do make sure to fill out the date sticker so that I know when to start paying attention and get ready to change it out. Again, this is me just trying to stretch a buck or two. Frigidaire makes a recommendation for a reason, and there is nothing wrong with following their directions.
If you go too long without changing your filter you may notice more odor or taste in your water. And you also might cause the filter to start leaking a bit. Think about it, it is trapping all those impurities. After a while they will build up.
I rarely hear any complaints about this filter. Usually people will complain that after six to nine months the water flow has slowed down to a painful pace. Well, as we talked about earlier, this simply means that the filter has been doing its job and now it is time to replace it.
Also, the manufacturer recommends running water through the filter for about three minutes when first setting it up. This helps to remove the loose carbon in the filter. Occasionally you will find a filter that requires more than three minutes to accomplish this. If this happens to you, don’t worry. You will not experience a problem with the water quality because of this. Sometimes there is a bit more settling in some filters. You will know when the process is complete because the water coming out will be clear, not cloudy.
You simply can not go wrong with the PureSource2 water filter. Nothing beats clean, odor-free, impurity-free water and ice at the touch of a button. For over three years my family and I have enjoyed clean, great tasting water at a price that doesn’t break the bank!
